Speed Fiends

A year or so ago, I bought a smart phone. I wanted to be able to text my family, exchange pictures and informationsoimportantitcan’twait. My texting has improved, when I first started out, I consistently hit the wrong letter. I still use one finger, but I’m pretty fast now.
I remember how slow I was learning to type without looking at the keys. Now I whiz by. It’s frustrating when you have to slow down to fix a typo. I like speed.
Now I tweet. I even pitched a novel to an agent in 140 characters on Twitter.
My point is, we have all trimmed down our communications. starting with email and ending at who knows what? We work faster, we talk faster, we glance instead of gaze. How might speed be affecting our interpretation of what we see or hear?
Take a good look at the picture of the boy above. Could you write a short story about what’s happening to him? Even shorter, flash fiction? My challenge to you is, write the story in six words. Remember, For sale baby shoes never worn? The six word story attributed by many to Hemingway?
Can you tell the story of the boy in six words.

He won, but he was sick.
