Winter White

Rock Harbor 2

An avalanche is hurtling itself onto the northeast. It will arrive later today, creeping in with soft silent stealth. In New England, this storm is expected to compare to the blizzard of 1978. It could be historical in proportion. It could endanger lives.
Picture a crackling fire burning in a stone fireplace. A cozy chair sits at an angle in front of the fire. On the table beside the chair, under the glow of lamplight, can you see the balloon of warm brandy and the book of Emily Dickinson poetry? Maybe some homemade shortbread cookies on a delicate china plate will be at arm’s reach. Now look out the window, see the snow falling so fast, it looks like a lace curtain. Every snowflake is a master work of art.
How could something of such intense beauty cause such chaos?

Thanks to my friend Louise for both the beautiful background and the insert photos!

Beautiful Gerri! Almost makes me want to be in the Northeast somewhere! It is such a delight to watch your writing become prose. Are you not in Florida this winter?

  3. You make me wish I were there, all cozy with a curled up cat on my lap and perhaps some lovely Rachmaninov concerto softly playing in the background. But on second thought,………Nah!

  4. Hi Gerri,

It is definitely white here, and it is pretty. As long as we keep up with the shoveling, it will be manageable. We are not going to get the snow they will be getting in New England. What we are getting is enough. I remember what it was like in 1978. Thank goodness we had a fireplace and quite a bit of wood! There was no power for a long time. We were new to Framingham. It did not take long to get to know our neighbors. We were all out with our terribly small and inadequate snow blowers that were available at the time. It was definitely something we will remember always.

  5. Brrrrrr…..My decision to head south has been reinforced…..lovely, those images, but the reality is decidedly NOT. I kissed the ground when I arrived in Florida over 50 years ago….and I would do it again in a heartbeat. New England in the fall….another story.
    Hugs.

  6. Very poetic images, Gerri.

  7. I loved your imagery. Be safe!
